About
The Enfield Poltergeist was a famous alleged haunting in North London between 1977 and 1979, centering on the Hodgson family—especially sisters Janet and Margaret. Witnesses reported furniture moving, knocking sounds, levitations, and Janet speaking in a deep “spirit” voice.
Investigators from the Society for Psychical Research documented hundreds of incidents, though skeptics argued the children faked some phenomena. The activity eventually faded, but the case remains one of the most debated in paranormal history, inspiring books and films like The Conjuring 2. The house today is a private residence, home to another family, and is not open for tours.
