About

Looking like a storefront straight off of a studio lot, Shepard's Barber Shop in Conroe, Texas, is a local icon. The classic barbershop, which has changed hands only a handful of times since its establishment in 1922, doesn't just provide the look of a vintage barbershop, but it still operates as one too.

Shepard's was first opened in the early 20th century, not long after the building it still sits in was built. Serving the residents of Conroe and the surrounding towns, Shepards has long been a fixture in the local community. The shop even got a visit from Elvis Presley in 1955, who had his ears lowered for the going price of one dollar.

Today, the prices are a bit higher, but the services are relatively unchanged. Now the walls are covered in memorabilia that's been collecting down the years. Pictures of the barbers throughout the decades, other moments from local history, taxidermied animals, silly signs, and boxing memorabilia. Oh, and of course, a little Elvis mixed in.

From the red, white, and blue barber pole hanging outside to authentic Americana hanging on the walls, Shepard's Barber Shop is a little piece of living history.

Know Before You Go

The shops opening hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's closed Sunday and Monday, and if you’re there on a Tuesday, owner Leon Apostolo - who started here in 1978 - recommends the all-you-can eat BBQ ribs night at the railroad-adjacent Pacific Yard House around the corner. Sit outside and he’ll probably wave as he drives home.
