About
Trolltrappan — which means "The Troll Staircase" in Swedish — is a deep, narrow natural fissure that snakes its way up a 4–5 meter rock wall in a forest north of Enköping. Though it looks as though it was crafted by invisible hands, it is actually a diabase dike that has partially eroded over time. That hasn’t stopped local folklore from insisting trolls made it themselves.
Arriving there is part of the adventure: there are no signs, no official trail markers, and the wooden one (used to) tell you the direction has been gone for years. Visitors must park on a nearby forest road, near a locked boom, and hike about 2 km into the forest. If GPS fails, the real challenge begins — you must guess the correct unmarked trail. Choose correctly and you will pass wild blueberries and perhaps a berry picker or two who can point you toward the final hundred meters.
The climb itself is brief but slightly steep, with eerie rock formations adding to the atmosphere. The staircase is suitable for older children who can manage the gaps, as well as for enthusiasts of folklore and geology. It is not recommended for very young children or those unsteady on their feet.

Know Before You Go
There are no official signs or marked paths. Park your car at the forest boom near the old logging road and prepare for a roughly 2 km forest walk. GPS may lose signal midway. It’s helpful to download offline maps in advance. Avoid visiting during rain or snow. Directions from website : “The path to Trolltrappan has been signposted and maintained, but is no longer. Finding the way on your own can be difficult, but if you have GPS in your phone, you should be fine. Park on a small parking pocket by the road (do not block the boom barrier!) Then take a walk on the forest road, about 1.5 km. Then you take aim with the help of the GPS to the coordinates 59.793636,17.021152 / 59 ° 47'37.1 ″ N 17 ° 1'16.1 ″ E.”
