Originally founded in 1866, the only thing still moving in this town is the eponymous hot spring flowing from the hills above. A handful of original stone ruins and dilapidated buildings dating to the late 1970s remain standing from a failed attempt to build the town into a rest stop and spa for local miners.
Once a small stop for stagecoaches, the tiny settlement now serves as the Western entrance to the Extraterrestrial Highway and Area 51.
Know Before You Go
The boiling hot spring feeding the town's pool and stream is just off the main road but is not safe to enter. The town and surrounding land are still private property and structures are clearly marked with "Keep Out" signs. Explore at your own risk.
