About
Since 1863, this mill has operated on the banks of the Clinton River, making cider since 1876.
Generations of the family operated the mill, from Caroline and William Yates, who began with a sawmill and gristmill. They expanded with a cider mill as there was a growing demand from farmers for a place to press their apples. In the 1930s, their grandson introduced donuts to their offerings. In 1959, when he retired, he sold the mill to close family friends Charles and Ruth Posey. Charles was a skilled mechanic who had helped with the mill’s machinery. Their granddaughter and her husband took over in 2006.
Visitors can watch the cider being made. The historic water-powered press is powered using the original turbine from 1894, using water from a dam on the Clinton River. They use no preservatives so their cider must be kept refridgerated.
Depending on the season, there are other activities available: petting zoos, ice cream, fresh apples, pumpkin pies. There is an on-site picnic area and it is connected to hiking and biking trails.
