Did you know that OUI can visit the largest private collection of French-language materials in the U.S.....inside a Boston brownstone?!
Founded in 1945 by members of Boston’s France Forever chapter, the French Library grew from a one-room collection of just 500 donated books into a collection of more than 29,000 books, films, magazines, and other materials. Today, the nonprofit is supported through memberships, classes, events, sponsors, and donations.
The best part? From the outside, you’d never guess the public can simply wander into this very residential-looking Back Bay mansion and pretend to be, ahem, high society!
The home was donated by animal sculptor Katharine Lane Weems, whose work includes the famous dolphins outside the New England Aquarium in Boston's downtown district.
And if you aren't saying "allez" yet... what if I told you that you can even stand in a room featuring walls imported from a BELGIAN château...
Take that, NYC!
