Descend into the tunnels to experience the life of a coal miner.

While coal mining at the Blegny-Mine in Belgium has been over for two decades, visitors can now descend into the tunnels to experience some of what the grueling work was like.
The Blegny-Mine is one of many that existed in the Liège region, and mining in Blégny goes back to the 16th century.
Now tunnels that stretch to nearly 200 feet under the earth (only a portion of how deep the mine actually is) are accessible via a lift cage to visitors protected with helmets and jackets and accompanied by a former miner guide, although there is also a museum aboveground for the claustrophobic.
