Brisbane Water National Park, near Kariong, is home to the amazing Bulgandry Art Site Aboriginal Place. Aboriginal artists used a hard-pointed stone to etch the designs into the surface of the flat, exposed Hawkesbury sandstone.

One thing that sets the Bulgandry Art Site apart from other Aboriginal rock art is the figure known as the “Bulgandry man.” Believed to be an ancestral hero, this person is shown standing at the foot of a long canoe with a boomerang in hand and a woomera (spear) across his waist. Surrounded him are depictions of kangaroos, fish, and other animals.
