On January 18, 1871, a hot air balloon landed on this spot. In that time it was vey special to see a hot air balloon. It was the first time farmers living in this neighbourhood saw such a thing in the air! The landing of the hot air balloon is marked with a column.

Driving from Venray to Vredenpeel (beekweg) you will find a sign at your right which points you in the direction to the balloon pilar (Ballonzuil).
