About

Stevie Ray Vaughan is buried at the Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. He was born there on October 3, 1954, grew up in Dallas' Oak Cliff neighborhood, and moved to Austin, Texas—where a statue of Vaughan now stands—in the 1970s to pursue his music career.

Vaughan was a highly influential guitarist and singer who helped to revive the blues rock genre in the 1980s. He formed the band Double Trouble in 1978 and released his debut album, Texas Flood, in 1983. Vaughan went on to release several more successful albums and won multiple Grammy Awards before his untimely death in a helicopter crash in 1990. Vaughan's legacy continues to inspire musicians around the world.

Know Before You Go

There is a post in the ground next to Vaughan's grave. It is customary to tie a bandana around this post out of respect to the family and deceased.
