Nestled in the Andes Mountains, Medellín is a city that defies expectations. Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," with year-round temperatures of around 72°F, what surprised me the most was the lush, forest-draped mountains framing a skyline that pulses with life.
Just 25 years ago, this city was seen as one of the most dangerous places in the world. Today it is unrecognizable — defined by a vibrant culture, world-class infrastructure, and a community-led spirit that has made it one of the great urban comeback stories. Nowhere is this more visible than in Comuna 13, a once-notorious barrio now blanketed in vivid murals that now has escalators stretching a quarter of a mile up the hillside, connecting Comuna 13 to the rest of Medellín.
The food scene is equally alive with street markets overflowing with tropical fruits, empanadas, and exceptional coffee. Behind it all — incredible resilience, warmth, and beauty that makes Medellín impossible to forget.
