About
This little hidden gem is a group of trees along the east edge of the Howard County Fairgrounds. The trees were born from seeds that traveled 1.8 million miles around planet Earth on the space shuttle Atlantis in 1988 as a 4-H project by the Purdue University Extension!
The plaque at the base of the sycamore tree reads as follows:
Tree Seed were flown aboard the United States Space Shuttle, ATLANTIS, December 2, 1988 to December 6, 1988, for Indiana County 4-H Clubs.
Launching from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, Atlantis completed 68 orbits, traveling 1.8 million miles before landing on the Rogers Dry Lakebed, at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Know Before You Go
