About
The Langlais Art Preserve in Cushing, Maine, safeguards the legacy of sculptor Bernard “Blackie” Langlais (1921–1977), who turned his coastal property into an open-air studio filled with monumental wooden creations. Between 1966 and 1977, Langlais transformed the land with hundreds of playful, surreal, and sometimes monumental sculptures, from oversized animals to towering human figures, blending art into the landscape.
Today, vsitors can take a short, ¼-mile accessible loop around the lawn to see sculptures close to Langlais’ former home and workshop, or follow a 1½-mile woodland trail that winds deeper into the property, where hidden artworks appear among the trees.

Admission is free, with donations encouraged, and the preserve offers a rare chance to experience an artist’s vision in the very environment where it was created.
