About
Devil’s Pulpit is a geological rock formation located in the Lehigh Gap. There are multiple trails that lead from Lehigh Gap Nature Center to Devil’s Pulpit: the Woodpecker Trail, which will connect to the Appalachian Trail, or the North Trail, which is marked with the designated blue markers.
Folklore will tell you that the devil himself would stand and deliver sermons from this rock formation. Even though there is no proof of this, it is understandable where this idea originated.
Devil’s Pulpit is only about a mile from the start of the hiking trail at the nature center and is roughly 509 feet in elevation. Looking over the ledge, you will be able to see the city of Palmerton, and you’ll be overlooking the Lehigh River. With some luck, you will be able to see a bald eagle or two or an osprey.
