About
Explore more than 4 miles of passageways and depths as much as 452 feet for a peek at what nature lies beneath in Laurel Caverns.
The cave was proposed to become a state park, and in the spring of 2026 it is set to reopen as Pennsylvania’s 125th state park and its first underground state park.
Visitors will be able to journey through its passageways once again. A previous 45-minute guided tour covered 1,200 feet of the cave and a 90-minute tour, which involved more crouching and crawling through the cavern, was geared to the more adventurous visitor.
Since these tours are underground, Laurel Caverns are a rain-or-shine activity. The temperature down below is a constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit, so you may want a jacket and, of course, appropriate footwear for cave touring. If the weather is fair, the facility's back deck offers a stunning view from Chestnut Ridge, part of the Allegheny Mountains.
