48 Eccentric Art Installations

Sometimes the call to create takes unusual form.

Some artists work their way diligently through school, training in traditions and techniques that have been developed over thousands of years to create sculptures in clay or marble, or paintings in oil. They build upon the work of generations who came before, striving to make something new and unique.

Others, driven to create, work with whatever tools and materials are at hand, carving wood with a chainsaw, building with reclaimed materials, obsessively collecting or transforming common objects into something new. In art, there are no rules. Or, perhaps: The rules are always being broken, erased, and rewritten.
