About
Frogmore Paper Mill holds the distinction of being the world's oldest mechanised paper mill. Established in 1774, it became a pivotal site in 1803 when the Fourdrinier brothers installed the first continuous papermaking machine, revolutionising paper production from a handcrafted process to an industrial one. This humble flat white stuff is surprisingly rich in history, science, and cultural significance, having shaped the modern world in countless ways.
Today, Frogmore operates as a working museum and visitor centre, preserving and sharing the rich history of papermaking. A visit includes a guided tour of the working mill, illuminating displays, and the opportunity to make your own sheet of handmade paper. Visitors can also explore exhibits, the gallery, the paper shop, and even take a boat ride along the mill’s waterways — something for everyone!
