These underground facilities go beyond the basics.
Transit facilities are sometimes seen as mere utilitarian spaces, unloved and unlovable. Like the hallway of a roadside motel, there seems to be little reason for elaborate decor. No one is expected to linger.
But there are exceptions! Architects, artists, and civic-minded leaders with vision sometimes manage to make everyday spaces that are exceptional. Their efforts deserve our attention.
